Sometimes, even plants can advance enough to become intelligent, like Emriss Silentborn.Īura and Madra can also produce spirits. They start out as magic animals, but as they advance they become more and more human. Sacred Beasts are animals that have absorbed enough aura that they advance and become intelligent, or the descendants of such animals. That's just how people classify them based in their effects. The different types of techniques - striker, enforcer, forger, ruler - are not really that important. Just think of madra as mana from a generic videogame magic system - they spend it to cast "spells," or techniques. E.g., Blackflame madra is Fire + Destruction madra, and it's really good at destroying stuff by burning it. You can mix multiple types of madra together to combine their aspects, and people give these combined type special names. Living things can absorb aura into their bodies and process it into "madra." Different types of madra are better at different things - fire madra is good at burning things, sword madra is good at cutting things, etc. In Cradle, everything produces "natural aura." Light produces light aura, fire produces fire aura, water produces water aura, etc. I'll explain them separately and then link them together: The Sacred Arts and The Way/Icons are essentially two separate, but related, magic systems.
